Who was this book written for? Its a picture book, so one would think it was written for children, but the story is so boring- Ive not met many little ones who could sit through a reading of this.On the page with the copyright date and the ISBN, in small print is written, Published in the United States of America by the Josephine Goodyear Committee to benefit the Childrens Hospital of Buffalo, Buffalo, New York.

So I guess it was written to get people to give money to a hospital. On the first page of the book, the reader is led to believe that the main character will be a little boy name Luisito. But no! The reader soon realizes that the main character is an anthropomorphic marker named Mac. Macs best friend and tour guide of Old Mexico is an anthropomorphic notebook named (wait for it!) Senora of Note.

Who thought any of this was a good idea?Apparently Gerda W. Klein thought so. Shes the author of this boring, boring tome. (Ok, yes, I love it when I can work the word tome into my writing.) The illustrator, the artist Chabela, is the grandmother of Luisito and the person who takes the marker and the notebook out and about in Mexico. The illustrations are nicely bright, not anything Im crazy about, but enough to drag this dismal book up to two stars.(This is the first book I read from the great FreeCycle windfall.)
